This 500 square foot shop is a butterfly lovers dream with garden gifts, glass and crystal figurines, and a wonderful variety of jewelry. There are also framed butterfly specimens for sale and nature gifts. Kids love all the educational gifts and toys. The Butterfly House Details

Visitors stroll along gorgeous pathways full of beautiful plants while discovering secret passageways. Opened in 2004, this 4000 sq foot aviary houses over 50 species of beautiful butterflies from all over the world.

Keep an eye out for the dazzling Mosaic from Central America, the Orchard Swallowtail from Australia, and look extra hard for the Dead Leaf Butterfly from Southwest Asia. The Dead Leaf Butterfly is a beautiful gradient of oranges and blues on the top but amazingly looks just like a dead leaf underneath. It often sits motionless in the trees with its “stem” touching the branches making it almost impossible to spot!

Their website includes an extensive Butterfly ID chart where you can visit prior to your visit. But seeing these magical creatures up close and personal is an experience you will never forget.

Expand your butterfly knowledge by checking out the butterfly specimens encased in glass. There are so many amazing things to see in both the aviary and gift shop.

Perry’s Cave and Family Fun Center

Perry’s Cave and Family Fun Center is located on Catawba Avenue, which is about a fifteen minute walk from downtown Put-in-Bay. This is definitely the epicenter of all kinds of family fun on the island. It is open every day during the season and includes special pricing for groups and tours as well as packages which makes seeing all their attractions affordable.

The whole complex is built around the ecological marvel, Perry’s Cave. This limestone cave provided water to Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry’s troops during the Battle of Lake Erie. Commodore Perry is also credited for the discovery of the cave in 1813.

The underground cave is quite rare with an intact roof. Its levels rise and fall with the tides of Lake Erie which points to yet to be discovered subterranean connection between the lake and the cave. Guided tours last between 15-20 minutes.

It is easy to spend an entire day here. DanDee’s provides plenty of yummy food for sustenance to keep going and having fun. Once you get hungry, there are plenty of other dining options within walking distance including Joe’s Bar and Goat Soup and Whiskey, which are both delicious and closeby.
