Downtown Dave’s Thought(s) For The Week

This past weekend was the opening of the tourist season on Put in Bay. I have never seen it so crowded. I was out in the crowd all day saying hello to everybody that I missed over the winter. I usually never stay in one place because I want to make sure that I have time to talk to everybody.

What a great crowd. Make sure you make plans for Whiskey light next year.

The night before me and Laurie went to the Red Moon and had a great conversation with 2 of the people that work there. They were originally visa kids that worked on the island and now make Put in Bay their home. One from Russia and one from Jamaica. Their stories were amazing. These are just a few of the people working hard every day to make your experience on the island fantastic. They came just to work for a season but with hard work and doing things the right way they found a home in the USA.

I am going to try throughout the summer to put a spotlight on people that work on Put in Bay. This island has a great group of people that really love what they do and I think they deserve a shout out. This week it is Casper:
He is the main guy at Mr Eds for entertainment. He handles a lot of the great bands that you see every week but he is also a great entertainer. Casper plays in a band called Fun Buckets at Eds on Thursdays, but he does a solo show that is really really good. I am amazed by his song catalog. I really do not think there is a song that he plays that you cannot close your eyes and think it is the person that sang the song. If you watch my schedule make sure that you watch Casper at Mr Eds. It will definitely be worth your time.

So I am going to do my best to give you a 9 day snapshot of who is playing every week. I am going to do a 9 day schedule so you can plan not just for the current week but the next week.

This weekend is Spring Fling. Always a great time on the island.

Now let’s cover my thoughts of the week.

So today I had a mom and her daughter check out. They decided to have a mother daughter for 2 days at Put in Bay. Well it is our policy at Ashley’s Island House to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. So we give a Birthday card, 2 wine glasses saying Happy Birthday from Ashleys Island House and a bottle of Heineman’s wine. Well she saw that and she was in tears of happiness. Now the Island is really not that busy when she was here but the 2 days that she spent with her daughter on Put in Bay she will never forget. Those are the memories that Put in Bay will give you when you stop and visit. It might be a Casper show or spending time with a loved one. Before they left I shared something my daughter gave me. I want to share them with you. It is hanging in my office.
