Myers Brothers Take Gold

For the first time in Junior Bay Week history, junior sailors from the Put-in-Bay Yacht Club took a gold medal in fleet competition winning the Inter-Lake Yachting Association Junior Sailing Championship. Brothers Jacob and Rider Myers took the honors in the 420 Class during the junior races that took place here at Put-in-Bay this past month. They were the first PIBYC team to win a fleet at Jr. Bay. So far this summer the two have been very successful racing their boat “Twinning?.” At the Junior Olympic Sailing Festival at Mentor Harbor Yacht Club, they recently won 1st place in the 420 fleet against some stiff competition. At the Community Swim/Sail Awards presentation on Friday, July 14th, Rider received the prestigious Gardner Trophy from Pam Boyette and Jacob received the Helen Davis Award for being the most helpful. Jacob and Rider are the sons of Tim and Tina Myers, and grandsons of island residents Mark and Mary Myers.

PIBYC had a total of 11 sailors representing the club at the I-LYA Junior sailing championships that took place July 17th through 20th here at its home club. Congrats to Luke Wilkins and Logan Thidemann for placing 3rd in the 420 Silver fleet! Others from Put-in-Bay Yacht Club who competed in the Junior Bay Regatta included Mia Hristovski, Ava Heineman, Jack Calfee and Molly Dunfee sailing 420s, and Grant Dunfee, Brooklyn Marriott and Evan Tigges sailing Lasers.
Congratulations to all the members of the PIBYC Sailing Team on a great 2023 season.
