Downtown Dave’s Thought(s) For The Week

Well I had an awesome week. It was like reliving my youth. I am a diehard baseball fan. Even at the age of 68 I will be playing softball again this year starting Sunday.

So Tuesday I went to the Indians game with my granddaughter, my daughter and son in law. It brought me back to the days when my daughter was about the same age and we would go to Indians games at least 10 times a year. They really got excited when the Indians went to the World Series. I remember we went to the airport to greet the team when they got back after a game. They were so excited that they got to touch a players hand as they walked by. Now my oldest grand daughter is a huge Indians fan. She has already gone to 8 games this year and I am happy that I went to 3 games with her. It is really cool that she loves what I do. I do not know if she will equal my current streak of 52 home openers in a row but I am happy that she is supporting my team. She even has many jerseys already of here favorite players. Then I went to the game on Wednesday afternoon.

Well my lesson is never burn bridges at a job. Because I have now been retired for 5 years but yet my old boss will still think of me if he has extra tickets to any Cleveland sporting event. The seats were closer to home plate than the pitcher was. Once again money cannot buy friends. Then to top it off I went to AC/DC the same day. I first saw them 52 years ago. It was a great show. The concert also gave me extra motivation. The lead singer is 77 and Angus Young the lead guitar is 70. They played for 2 plus hours. I have no idea how they did that at their age. But the highlight of the night was a dad and maybe his 12 year old daughter. They were sitting right in front of me. This just reminded me of all the games that I went with with my kids. She was rocking all night and knew every word to every song. There is really something about live music that makes people forget about what is going on in life and lets them have fun. That is what Put in Bay is about. There are so many talented musicians that play here every day.

What is really tough about life is that most of us work for 40 plus years before we retire. Then maybe we have 10 plus years left to enjoy the rest of our life’s. But for me I always worked hard and played hard. Why because nothing in life is guaranteed. So be a kid. Make great memories every week. Make new friends every week. Be thankful in the moments that make you smile. I had lots of those this week and I will have many more next week.

I also have to make a special mention to my friend Paul Jeris. He went up in space last week. Not in his mind but in a real rocket ship. Only 700 people have ever done this. This is a caring man that when Ukraine got invaded he went to the border and gave out $100 bills to people leaving the country so they could get a meal or a place to stay. He did this on his own. He has also visited at least 138 countries. If you think I get around this man makes me look small. But he continues to dream and explore. So that is what I want everybody to do. Dream

Have a great week everybody.

This upcoming Monday June 9th is Pride day on Put in Bay. We have lots of things going on June 9th. Highlighted by a comedy show by Molly Kearney. She worked on Put in Bay for many years then she went off and did Saturday Night live. We also have tours of the Benson Ford Ship house on Sunday June 8th from 11-2

I am going to try and get a few interviews for future posts from some of your favorite performers on Put in Bay
