Downtown Dave’s Thought(s) For The Week
So it is almost September. I cannot believe the summer has gone so fast. The weather this year has been crazy. We had a chilly damp early summer. Then we had a very hot, humid dry month. Now it seems like fall is a month too early. But one thing for sure: the music scene on Put in Bay is always good. This time of year the crowd is different. With kids back to school I find the next few weeks are the best because the crowds are not as big but they are still fun. The chamber of commerce has lots of fall events planned. You will probably notice that the music schedule is a little smaller. The weekday entertainment is limited but there is still a lot to do on the island. Sometimes it is just as good just to get away and relax. It is amazing that you can take a quick boat ride to an island in Ohio and you feel like you are in another world.
Now my thoughts for the week.
Failure is not the end
While failure is definitely not a desired outcome, it is still part of your success. Many successful people have failed a lot of times in their lives, and that is one of the main reasons they are successful today. Embrace failures and learn from them. Only when you stay positive during failures can you rise up to success tomorrow.
Learning to let go
Letting go of an idea or a goal can be very painful at times, especially if you have invested a lot of effort and time into it. However, you have to learn to let go to be successful. No matter how great an idea is, or how desirable a goal or dream is, you have to give them up if they are not feasible. Being adaptable in your thoughts is essential to ensure success.
Decide to leave a legacy.
Even at a young age it is important to think about what legacy you want to leave because knowing how you want to be remembered helps you decide how to live today. So in the last year I have made choices to help me leave a legacy. I have set up 529 college plans for my grandkids to help offset their college costs. I will contribute every year. That way my grandkids will have a head start in life. Hopefully they will remember how I will be making their lives easier when they get older. And I have decided to serve on the City Council on Put in Bay. I attend probably 75% of the meetings anyway but I feel that I can help make Put in Bay a better place for business and a better place to live. The problem with most politicians is that they do the job for themselves. I am doing it for the community that I love. I encourage everybody to find a way to leave a legacy. Even if it is small like what I am doing, do something. It really feels good to have a lasting effect on others after I am gone.
