Downtown Dave’s Thought(s) For The Week
What a crazy week to end the official summer season. But do not worry we have a great last 2 months of 2025 left to celebrate.
I made sure that over 4 days I checked out all of the live entertainment that we had. I did not post videos of every show but I will say that the island was rockin ‘all weekend. I have made so many new friends this summer from all of the new musicians that I watched to all of the guests at Ashley’s Island House. Plus what is really cool is just meeting total strangers for the first time and then after talking to them then they become friends.
Also this year I have made more connections with my island friends. The regulars as I call them. They all know my schedule and that I am a one person show running the Bed and Breakfast. Except for my most valuable person Patricia Fisher. I do now know what I would have done without her help this year. Starting this week she becomes the super most valuable person when it comes to my tailgates, which start this Sunday. I will be leaving on Saturday and she will do breakfast and check in a full house this Sunday. Without her help I could not do the tailgates.
So this brings me to my Browns. I can say that I have only missed 2 home games in the last 45 years. Does that make me stupid? Crazy? Loyal? or just a fan of my Cleveland Browns? Plus I have probably gone to about 30 away games over the years. It is getting tough with the price of tickets to justify going to the game and supporting a billionaire’s hobby.
At one time I had 11 season tickets and now I am down to 6. Even now I have 2 seats that I cannot sell for this year. It makes me sad but I understand. I will probably give up those 2 next year. Now that brings me to the tailgate that started with maybe 6 people 45 years ago to what will happen this Sunday of maybe 200 people attending. If we had a better team I bet we would have over 250. I really think there will be a lot of empty seats on Sunday. Putting on the tailgate of this size is a job in itself. For me, seeing all of my friends for a few hours on a Sunday morning is really worth the work.
So come up to Put in Bay before the season is over. I bet you will make new friends too and then make it an annual trip like I did when I started coming here 24 years ago.
