4 Island Women to Run New York City Marathon

Laura Fogg, Kelli Krassow, Katie Stitak, and Taylor Hanes are running the New York City Marathon on November 5th, 2023. The New York City Marathon is the largest marathon in the world, with over 50,000 runners participating. The course goes through all 5 boroughs of New York City. Runners can compete in the New York City Marathon by earning a qualifying time or by running for a nonprofit organization and raising the minimum funds requirement, which is typically $3,500.

These women have trained rigorously over the past several months–sometimes running before sunrise and after sunset. In addition to physically training, the marathon has required fundraising for their nonprofit organizations.

Laura is running for Fred’s Team. The money raised goes directly to the labs at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer research center. Laura runs for her mother who passed away from ovarian cancer. This is Laura’s third marathon and second time running the New York City Marathon.

Kelli is running for Race to End Duchene. Duchene is a fatal form of muscular dystrophy. Kelli nannied a child that was later diagnosed with this disorder. She runs on behalf of Tej. The money raised goes towards researching treatment cures and supporting the families experiencing Duchene. This is Kelli’s fourth marathon and second time running the New York City Marathon.

Katie is running for Alex’s Lemonade Stand. Their mission is to cure childhood cancer. Katie runs for her niece Ruby, who was diagnosed with brain cancer at the age of two. Ruby went through brain surgery and chemotherapy–she is currently in remission and thriving! The money raised goes toward researching treatment cures. Alex’s Lemonade Stand also provides emotional, financial, and logistical support to families experiencing childhood cancer. This is Katie’s third marathon and second time running the New York City Marathon.

Taylor is running for TrackGirlz. TrackGirlz is a nonprofit organization that funds track and field athletic programs for urban adolescent girls. By the age of 14, girls are twice as likely to drop out of sports compared to boys. Girls that stay in sports are more likely to have a positive self-esteem, are more likely to go to college, and have a higher level of overall health. Taylor is passionate about advocating for adolescent girls and is currently studying to become a School Psychologist. This is Taylor’s first marathon!

Together, these women have raised over $20,000 for their nonprofits. Thank you on behalf of Laura, Kelli, Katie, and Taylor to everyone that has donated to their causes!
