It’s finally time! With the beginning of the Miller Ferry’s scheduled runs from Catawba to South Bass Island, the start of the Put-in-Bay season is officially upon us! It’s been a long winter, and at putinbay.com we are so ready to ditch the puffy coats and hot chocolate for Hawaiian shirts and margaritas! Over the coming weeks, we’ll first see people flock to the Lake Erie Islands from all around the United States to catch their fill of fish in the Walleye Capital of the World.

As the last vestige of winter disappears and is replaced by spring proper, one by one the famous Put-in-Bay attractions will start to open up. The Put-in-Bay restaurants and bars will be first, and nightlife will return to the Bay! Then some of the other famous attractions like Perry’s Cave and the Butterfly House. And lastly, perhaps the Put-in-Bay island signature, certainly the most visible attraction, Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial.

2022 is going to be a huge year on South Bass Island!

All signs point to this being the biggest Put-in-Bay season of all time! Some highlights include the world-famous annual Pyrate Fest, which draws thousands to the island from all over the “high seas”, our yearly soccer and volleyball tournaments which are attended by guests throughout the Midwest, and the incredible Jeep Invasion, a weekend-long celebration of one of the world’s most famous vehicles that draws a massive crowd.

The Spring Fling and Fall Ball Island Club Customer Appreciation parties serve as the unofficial bookends of the season, and of course there’s the crown jewel, Bash On The Bay! This year’s edition of the massive country music event at the Put-in-Bay Airport will be a two-night affair, with Brad Paisley and the Zac Brown Band headlining! Not every trip to Put-in-Bay is about a special island event however. Sometimes it’s about your own personal events. Bachelor and bachelorette parties are a downtown Put-in-Bay staple of course, but we will also see hundreds of family reunions and corporate retreats over the course of 2022.

Boaters and other Great Lakes lovers will visit Put-in-Bay to participate in their favorite water activities. You’ll see jet skis and kayaks everywhere you look in the lakeside waters surrounding South Bass Island, Middle Bass Island and Kelley’s Island.

And of course, if you’re from Sandusky, Cleveland or Toledo, you may not need a reason for your trip at all! It may be as simple as wanting to hop in the car and spend a beautiful day in DeRivera Park or South Bass Island State Park or any of our other amazing green spaces. Or maybe just a day with the kids at Perry’s Family Fun Center, playing a round of mini-golf and checking out the cave and other family-friendly attractions like the Lake Erie Islands Historical Society to learn about Oliver Hazard Perry and the Battle of Lake Erie.
