‘The Best Damn Band In The Land’ Spends a Day at the Bay! 9/1/2013
Today we’re going to take a look back at one of the most exciting days at Put-in-Bay in recent memory. The Ohio State Marching Band, or as it’s known around these parts, ‘The Best Damn Band In The Land’, joined us up on the island to help us with our bicentennial celebrations. Now, if you’re from Ohio, no further explanation is needed for why this was such a great Put-in-Bay occasion. But if you’re from elsewhere, and you’re thinking, “A marching band, what’s the big deal?”, let us try to explain. These guys and gals are ROCK STARS in Ohio, and that’s because they’re the best of the best!
Probably the highlight of the visit was their performance on the Miller Ferry. The band members loaded up onto the part of the boat typically reserved for cars and trucks, and performed their greatest hits as the ferry cruised around the island. As people inland got word of what was happening, they rushed to Put-in-Bay’s shores to get a glimpse as the band delighted the crowds on their boats in the harbor and dining at the restaurants on the water. Please enjoy an amazing video of the occasion below!
The Ohio State University Marching Band is always a showstopper!
Later that evening the band gave an incredible performance at Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial, performing the national anthem, the William Tell Overture and more. We could have had performers who have sold millions of albums, but on that day and with that crowd, there’s no one in the entire world we would have rather had at the Bay!
September 1, 2013, is one of our favorite Put-in-Bay memories, but we make more every season. Bash on the Bay last year drew tens of thousands of visitors to see Kid Rock, our annual PyrateFest fills up the hotels and resorts, and that’s just for starters.
