Downtown Dave’s Thought(s) For The Week
Well we are down to the final 2 weekends of the season on Put in Bay for live music. There will be some of the restaurants open on weekends starting October 27th. I know that Topsy Turvey, Joes, The Forge and Hooligans will be open that weekend. I keep on stressing to everybody to make your reservations for 2024 now.
I have had 4 calls this week for dates for 2024 and we are already sold out for the dates that the people wanted. So make sure that you make plans now.
The Chamber of Commerce has been busy working the event calendar for 2024 and we should have it done in the next few weeks. I might get it by next weeks post.
Last weekends Octoberfest and fall ball was busy. It was not a summer crowd but it was a nice crowd and everybody got into the spirit of each event.
Ray Fogg is still working on Put in Bay dates for Key West and as soon as we have it we will share with everybody.
This weeks thought of the week
Remarkable Obituary
Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend Mr. Common Sense.
Mr. Sense had been with us for many years. No one knows how old he was since his birth records were lost in bureaucratic red tape
He will be remembered as having cultivated such value lessons as the early bird get the worm and that life is not always fair.
Common Sense lived by simple and sound financial policies. (do not spend more then you earn) and reliable Parenting strategies (adults, not kids are in charge)
His health started to rapidly deteriorate when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were put into place like these. Reports of a 6 year old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student only worsened his condition.
Finally Common Sense lost the will to live as the 10 commandments became contraband, churches became businesses and criminals received better treatment than their victims.
Common Sense finally gave up the ghost after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, she spilled a bit in her lap, and was awarded a huge financial settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Discretion and his daughter Responsibility and his son Reason.
He is survived by two step brothers, My Rights and Ima Whiner.
Not many attended his funeral because few realized he was gone.
Yes this post is a little different than many of my thoughts but I believe that many people do not have common sense. Plus we do have way too many rules and regulations and way to many attorneys. As much as I enjoy the new technology sometimes the best things in life are being on an island and taking a walk in the park looking at the fall colors instead of streaming a movie or a TV show on your phone or computer. You can do just that the next 2 weeks on Put in Bay. Yes please visit all of our fine establishments on the island but find time to take a walk in our many parks and enjoy the simple things. Maybe you might find the grave of Mr Common Sense.
Have a great weekend everybody and we will wrap up the season next week. Hope to see you at Put in Bay
