Downtown Dave’s Thought(s) For The Week
So last week I talked about being a kid. This week I will talk about growing old.
We do not stop playing because we are old, we grow old because we stop playing. There are only 4 secrets to staying young, being happy and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You have to have a dream. When you lose your dreams you die. We have so many people walking around that are dead and they do not even know it. There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. I think last week’s post explained that for me. If you are 21 you can stay in bed for an entire year and you will turn 22 365 days later. You can be 60 and stay in bed for the entire year and you will turn 61. Anybody can grow older. That does not take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up be always finding the opportunity in change. Have no regrets. The elderly usually do not have regrets for what they did., but rather for the things that we did not do. The only people that fear death are those with regrets. Remember growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional. All of this brings me to a guest that I had a few years ago. She had cancer and was going through Chemo. She knew her time on earth was limited. But she did not stop living her life and dreams. She made a few visits to Put in Bay and stayed with us at Ashleys Island House. Her visits touched me in so many ways. She never gave up living. She did pass recently but now her dreams live on with her daughter that is here this weekend and decided that she was going to continue her moms tradition. So now her daughter stays here the same weekend that her mom would come up and she has already booked for next year. Stories like this are why I do what I do. Put in Bay makes many memories for everybody. So I hope to see all of you soon to make your memories on Put in Bay.
One last note: if you come up on Sunday be sure to tour the Ship House on the island. The money raised goes straight to the chamber of commerce so we can promote great events on the island.
