Meet Downtown Dave!
My name is Dave Schafer, owner of Ashley’s Island House, a Bed and Breakfast on Put-in-Bay. I am also on the Board for the Chamber of Commerce. I am going to do a weekly post on Put-in-Bay upcoming events. I will try to get you an updated band schedule from the information that I have. I might even sneak in a quote of the week just to make you think.
So lets get started. Last week was the Rhodes scholars. They are a group of people that come from all over to watch the bird migrations. Yes, it sounds really odd, but it is also really cool. We had people from Oregon, California, Virginia, Missouri, North Carolina and Maryland. They did not come to party but they came to observe nature. So, occasionally I will give my readers things do to other than drink.
Memorial Day at the Bay
This weekend is really the kickoff to the season on Put-in-Bay, Memorial weekend. It was originally know as Decoration day. It began during the civil war, when citizens placed flowers on the graves of those who had been killed in battle. After WW1, it came to be observed in honor those who die in all U.S. wars, and its name was changed to Memorial Day. Many brave men and women have died protecting your freedom. So lets make sure we remember them this weekend.
